Former NFL wide receiver and return specialist Jacoby Jones has died at the age of 40. Jones passed away on July 14, 2024, at his home in New Orleans, Louisiana.

An autopsy later confirmed that Jones died of natural causes, with hypertensive cardiovascular disease identified as the cause of death. His passing was ruled non-suspicious, bringing clarity but little comfort to fans and former teammates who remembered him as one of football’s most vibrant personalities.

Jacoby Jones was best known for his time with the Baltimore Ravens, where he became a central figure in the team’s 2012 Super Bowl championship run. He etched his name into NFL history with the iconic “Mile High Miracle,” a 70-yard game-tying touchdown catch in the AFC Divisional Playoffs against the Denver Broncos. Jones followed that moment with another record-setting performance in Super Bowl XLVII, returning the opening kickoff of the second half 108 yards for a touchdown—the longest play in Super Bowl history at the time.

Beyond the field, Jones was celebrated for his charisma, infectious energy, and deep involvement in the community. Whether through charitable work, mentoring young athletes, or his larger-than-life presence, he left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Though his life ended far too soon, Jacoby Jones’ legacy lives on through his unforgettable plays, championship success, and the joy he brought to the game of football.
