Realtor CJ Roy’s Death: SIT Confirms No Suicide Note Found Amid Legal Battle

Bengaluru, February 3, 2026 – The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of Bengaluru-based realtor CJ Roy has confirmed that no suicide note or personal diary was recovered at the scene, despite circulating claims of a nine-page note and a 20-page diary. Senior officials stated that prima facie, the case appears to be suicide, but the investigation is ongoing to determine underlying causes.

“Any document will be recognized as a death note only if it is recovered at the scene or supported by electronic evidence. Claims without proof will not be considered,” said an officer involved in the probe.

Investigators conducted an extensive search over 48 hours, reviewing CCTV footage from the premises and collecting other key evidence. Roy’s wife is expected to be questioned soon, given her knowledge of his financial records and business dealings.

Legal Battle Preceding Roy’s Death

Roy had been embroiled in a legal dispute related to income tax searches at his Bengaluru offices. On December 16, 2025, he approached the Karnataka High Court, challenging the legality of the raids conducted by Kochi-based officials.

In his petition, Roy argued that:

  • The searches were unauthorized, as his main business entities were in Bengaluru.

  • The use of a single omnibus warrant to search multiple entities breached procedural safeguards.

  • Non-local witnesses were present, and premises were sealed for an excessive period.

He sought to have the searches declared legally null and void. However, before the court could hear the matter, Roy withdrew the petition on December 18, 2025. No formal reasons were recorded, and the court did not rule on the issues raised.

The SIT is now examining potential pressures Roy faced before his death, including the circumstances surrounding the withdrawal of the petition. IRS officer Krishnaprasad from Kochi also led searches at the company offices as part of the ongoing investigation.

Political Reactions to SIT Formation

The SIT’s creation has sparked political debate. BJP state president BY Vijayendra criticized the government for forming the team hastily, suggesting it created suspicion regarding the government’s intent. He also claimed that SITs are selectively constituted, citing prior instances related to alleged mismanagement at the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation.

Investigation Continues

The SIT continues to probe all angles of CJ Roy’s death, reviewing financial records, business dealings, and possible external pressures. While suicide appears to be the preliminary conclusion, authorities caution that the investigation remains thorough and ongoing.
